What is a Carer?

“A Carer is someone who has caring responsibilities for a spouse, relative, friend or neighbour who, due to disability, frailty, illness and/or vulnerability cannot manage alone in the community. They may or may not live with the person they care for. Carers can be of any age and care without pay.”

Step 1

The first step is to identify yourself as a carer to the people working with the person for whom you care, whether that be a nurse, a community care worker, a GP, a receptionist or someone else.

Step 2

The second step is to find out more about the wide range of information and support available to you. The information on these pages is for carers caring for someone living in Torbay.
